Depending on your needs, you can choose to put a sink or a stovetop on the island. Or you can leave it as pure counter space. It can be multi-level and custom shaped or rectangular and level. Further, you can use the block as extra storage by adding drawers and doors. The island adds a lot of functional advantages to the kitchen, but it can also help to structure the use of the space. It works as an area where people congregate, but it also works as a border, keeping them separate from the cooks or those cleaning. By bringing people into the kitchen but keeping them separated, the kitchen island encourages a social atmosphere without letting extra people get in the way of the activity. Or if they're helping, it gives them a separate space to work.
Since white is becoming a preferred color in most kinds of furniture, manufacturers are giving special attention to the manufacture of white kitchen islands with variety of styles and designs in order to satisfy their customers every day. Apart from the color, white is also combined with several design elements like light colored oak or soft accents to give a warmer look to the kitchen. In order to bring in more varieties to the white kitchen islands, you can use it with various tints, tones as well as shades of color. Since white is a neutral color, it can definitely be paired with almost any color as an accent.
Some kitchen islands and carts come with a counter top that is designed for eating space. With the addition of chairs or barstools, this counter overhang can be used as an informal dining area. Even large kitchen carts, however, generally only provide room for two to four place settings of dining area. This dining area can be provided with the counter space already present with the island cart or a drop leaf that can be detached from the cart. Kitchen islands and carts can be a great addition to a small or large kitchen. Depending on the size of the kitchen, a homeowner may be limited to the size of the cart and the storage areas and benefits the cart provides. Kitchen carts are offered with many different compartments, shelves and drawers to hide and kitchen clutter. A kitchen cart can also be a great place to store appliances such as microwaves, toasters and mixers.
